Today has been another day spent pruning apple trees during which I noticed there were still quite a number of greenish leaves still hanging on there. They aren't now of course because they were on the new growth that I was pruning back.
Interesting - it looks to me as though you do the job more carefully than the farmer - sho just picks a day, goes in with his clippers and cuts them back. I must say we do not get many apples - because we don't protect them against bugs etc. Have times changed Bob? When I was a kid my dad never did anything to our old Blenheim Orange tree and it was laden every year.
That is a big job, Bob. I hadn't realized you had to get that ladder near the middle. Do you stand on the branches to get the outer higher ones trimmed?
Growing up we had some peach trees, plum trees, and one cherry tree. Then of course wild plums and mulberries. The domestic ones eventually froze off but the wild one did good.
Here I have a lemon tree in a bucket that I bring in when it gets too cold out. We don't get many lemons.
Sorry it's been a while since my last visit. I have no real excuse. My posting outruns my visiting sometimes. ..
You give me hope for spring. There is a 65 year old apple tree at my dad's house desperatley in need of some care. My hubby and I are hoping to do some work in it this spring. Thanks for the additional motivation.
